Medical Coding

Medical Coding is a two-semester certificate program designed to prepare students for employment as medical insurance specialist or as a medical coder in physician’s offices, hospital billing offices, outpatient departments and insurance companies. Students will develop an expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT/HCPCS medical coding and medical billing procedures.  This program is an AHIMA approved coding curriculum that prepares students to sit for the AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CSS®) Certification. Students are also eligible to sit for the AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification

Medical coding specialists are in demand.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a shortage of more than 50,000 qualified HIM and HIT workers by 2015.  Americans will be using more and more healthcare services in coming decades.  New regulations are creating jobs for qualified medical coding specialists.
