Mentoring

BridgeValley recognizes the importance of providing professional development opportunities for new faculty and staff hired by the College.  We believe that effective mentoring programs are an important part of professional development, and the mentoring programs are an integral part of the College’s strategic plan. Below please find information for our faculty mentoring and staff mentoring programs, as well as useful links to mentoring resources. If you are interested in serving the college as a mentor, please contact a member of the Human Resources team.

Classfield Staff Mentoring Program

The following are the qualifications for becoming a staff mentor:

1. Must be a full-time staff member and have at least one year of employment at BVCTC

2. Familiarity with the policies and programs available at BVCTC 

3. Convey a positive image of the college (committed to the college’s mission and purpose and exemplifies its expectations and core values) 

4. Must not be new employee’s supervisor and preferably not employed in the same department 

5. Participation in a mentor training session provided by the HR Department 

6. Commitment to a three (3) to four (4) month mentoring relationship, allowing two-four hours per month to meet with the new employee;

 

Faculty Mentoring Program

The following are the requirements for becoming a faculty mentor:

1. Either serves on or has served on a College committee at some time during the last two years

2. Has successfully completed and can document completion of a professional development activity

3. Received a majority of excellent ratings in the annual faculty evaluations from the supervising dean/ chair over the past two years

4. Has demonstrated computer technology skills (i.e., can use Blackboard, MS Office, and Outlook email)

5. Understands the College’s mission and core values

6. Has an endorsement from the mentor’s supervising academic dean or chair indicating support for the person to serve as a mentor
