Frequently Asked Questions for BridgeValley Online 

What is BridgeValley Online? 

BridgeValley offers classes through a web-based platform that allows faculty to add and organize course resources for their students.  This system is called BridgeValley Online. The software used to support the system is called Blackboard. We are currently running Release 9.1.12 

Can I access BridgeValley Online from any off-campus location (home or work)? 

You do not need to be on campus to access BridgeValley Online. You can use BridgeValley Online anywhere you have access to a computer that will connect to the Internet.  This includes your home computer, a friend’s computer, the public library, etc.

What are the computer requirements for BridgeValley Online 9.1? 

BridgeValley Online continually updates its browser and system compatibility, which means some older versions of browsers and operating systems may no longer be supported. Be sure to check the Supported Browsers & Operating Systems page to make sure your computer is sufficiently up-to-date.  

Also, your browser settings should be set at the following: 

  • Accept all cookies 
  • Security Level set at Medium 
  • Enable Java and JavaScript 
  • Disable pop-up blockers 

What operating systems do I need to use BridgeValley Online? 

  • Windows users:  Windows 7 or Window 10   
  • Mac users:  Macintosh OS 10.2 or higher  

What type of Internet connection do I need to access BridgeValley Online? 

BridgeValley Online can be accessed from any computer that is connected to the Internet with access speeds of 56 K or faster. Please bear in mind that slower Internet access speeds might hamper the downloading or uploading of files, especially during peak usage hours (this might become a major problem when taking timed online quizzes or tests via BridgeValley Online). Slower speeds will also interfere with the smooth playing of audio and video files. 

Will virus protection software or firewalls interfere with BridgeValley Online? 

Commonly used virus protection software products, like McAfee or Norton, should not interfere with accessing BridgeValley Online.  If you access BridgeValley Online at home and you use firewall protection, you might encounter occasional problems while using BridgeValley Online. To resolve such problems, you will need to make changes to your firewall settings. 

How do I get a BridgeValley Online Account? 

Once you have registered for classes, the system will create your BridgeValley Online account. In most cases, you will be able to access your BridgeValley Online classes through your MyBridge account. When using MyBridge, your account username will be your BridgeValley student number (“B” number) and your default password will be your birthdate. 

  • Username:    B00000000
  • Password:    birthdate in mmddyy format (May 1, 1981 would be written as 050181) 

How do I access BridgeValley Online? 

You should access your BridgeValley Online classes through you MyBridge account. Login Instructions can be found here. If there is ever a problem with your MyBridge, you may link directly to the URL/web address (http://ilearn-bridgevalley.wvnet.edu).

Why don’t I see all my courses listed?  

You will only see courses in which you are enrolled and that your instructor has made available in BridgeValley Online. If you are enrolled in a course and don’t see it listed in BridgeValley Online, contact your instructor.  

How do I access the courses that I am registered for? 

Once you log into BridgeValley Online, you will see your courses listed under the My Courses module in the center of the page. You can also click on the BridgeValley tab at the upper left hand corner of the page to get a listing of your courses.  

What types of courses are offered in BridgeValley Online? 

BridgeValley Online covers many different subject areas and new ones are being added all the time. Check the schedule for specific details for course offerings. Click here to see the different types of courses that we offer.

How do I get help with BridgeValley Online? 

For assistance, contact the Help Desk at 304-293-5192.  Help is available 24 hours a day/seven days a week.  You may also contact them via the Web Help Form.  For support on face-to-face or blended classes, please contact your instructor.

Is help available once I am logged into my class?

Yes, you may either contact your instructor or you can access Blackboard tutorials.  Most questions are addressed in the Student Orientation to Online Learning course, a required course that must be completed when enrolling in any BridgeValley web course.
