K9 Train-the-Trainer

The K9 Train the Trainer program offers canine behavior and dog training courses that will help you rise to the top of your field. Whether you desire to start (or expand) a business as a professional dog trainer or want to pursue a career or business in veterinary medicine, grooming, boarding or other fields—dog training will be an invaluable asset throughout your pursuits!

Hands-on Training

In our K9 Train the Trainer program you won’t just learn about dogs, you will work hands-on with different breeds and use your skills on the field working with expert instructors and Master Trainers from all over the world.  Students will learn various methods and techniques to train for obedience and particular skills, as well as foundational knowledge in canine anatomy, behavior, kennel management, business start-up, and marketing.

We are excited to introduce our new instructor: Jason Kerr, Master Trainer with MAKOR K9 of WV.  Jason has trained Trainers from numerous law enforcement agencies across the country--from municipal to state to federal agencies.  Learn more about Jason and MAKOR K9 of WV.

Program Objectives

The primary objective of the K9 Train the Trainer course is to prepare students for a career in almost any facet of professional dog training. Completion of this course will qualify most graduates to begin a multi-faceted training practice or to seek employment with many different types of training centers or related occupations. Upon graduation, you will be a prepared to take the national exam to become certified as a Master Trainer with the skills you will need to deal with different breeds, bloodlines, personalities, backgrounds, and behaviors of most any dog.

Units of Instruction

The following units of instruction represent a combination of classroom lectures on theory, practical application of instruction in supervised workshops, and independent study sessions:

  • Single & Dual Purpose
  • Narcotics Detection
  • Explosives Detection
  • Specialty Detection
  • Electronic Storage Detection
  • Search & Rescue
  • Personal and Executive Protection
  • Endangered Species & Wildlife Contraband

Classes will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays (9:30-10:50am; 11:00am-12:20pm; and 1:00-2:20pm) beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
