The list below includes a determination for each program or course by state.  Meeting curriculum criteria for state educational requirement does not include transferring a professional licensure or certification between states or jurisdictions.  Additional requirements to transfer a certification or licensure may apply.

ACCT 291 Certified Bookkeeper Preparation & Accounting Review and Accounting & Bookkeeping

·      This is a national certification

·      This course offers students a review of accounting knowledge, bookkeeping subject matter, and prepare to sit for the Certified Bookkeepers (CB) designation with the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB). This capstone course focuses on the seven primary subject areas: Accounting Review, Adjusting Entries, Correction of Accounting Errors, Payroll, Depreciation, Inventory and Internal Controls.

Professional Licensure Disclosure

 

ALHL 101 Phlebotomy Technician

 

·      Certification: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)

·      National certifications through National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

·      Four credit hour course consisting of lecture, lab, and hands-on clinical rotation that prepares students s as Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (CPT). Coursework includes selecting and preparing the skin puncture site, tube selection, collecting specimens (order of the draw), adhering to proper health and safety guidelines, patient-technician relationship, and clerical duties associated with proper record keeping.  Students must complete 25 successful venipuncture sticks in the laboratory setting prior to beginning the hands-on clinical rotation.  During the clinical rotation, students will master venipuncture (100 sticks), capillary sticks (25), and other procedures at an approved facility under the direction of a preceptor.  Emphasis will be placed on the successful completion of the national certification exam after the course.  NOTE:  Both the classroom instruction and clinical rotation must be completed to receive credit for the course.

Professional Licensure Disclosure

 

ALHL 203 EKG Technician

 

·      Certification: Certified EKG Technician (CET)

·      National certifications through National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

·      Four credit hour course consisting of lecture, lab, and hands-on clinical rotation that prepares students as credentialed Electrocardiograph (EKG/ECG) Technicians. Instruction will include classroom lecture and skill lab practice and demonstration. Course includes anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, the Holter monitor, electrocardiography, and echocardiography.  Emphasis will be placed on the successful completion of the national certification exam after the course.   Students must complete 25 EKGs in the clinical setting.  Note:  Both the classroom instruction and clinical rotation must be completed to complete this course.

Commercial Driver License

 

·      Certification: Leads to the Commercial Driver’s License

·      The certification is recognized nationwide

·      The need for Truck Drivers is high in West Virginia and throughout the country. This need is expected to keep growing. If you have a strong work ethic and desire a stable, good paying career in a highly skilled field, the Commercial Driver License program at BridgeValley will prepare you for success. The program will combine classroom instruction along with Behind-the-Wheel training by a professional Truck Driving instructor for a total of 5 weeks (160 hours) prior to taking the CDL driver test.

Phlebotomy Technician Program

Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection for the purpose of laboratory analysis. They will develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. After successful completion of 120 hours of classroom instruction (both virtual and face-to-face), students will be scheduled for a 120-hour practicum at a local medical facility. These facilities require students to pass a criminal background check and drug screen; they also require documented immunities to specific diseases before beginning their practicum experience. A high school diploma or TASC completion will be required before students will be eligible for employment as a Phlebotomy Technician.

Veterinary Technology AAS Program

 

·       Certification: Veterinary Technician after passing the National Veterinary Technician Exam and the WV State Exam

·       All states will accept the passing of the national exam, but each state has its own other regulations to become licensed within the state

·       This is a two-year joint program with BridgeValley Community & Technical College. Students in the program receive training in all of the aspects necessary to become competent Veterinary Technicians. The students will become knowledgeable in areas of both large and small animal care and handling, client communication, hospital management, parasitology, nutrition, behavior, surgical nursing, anesthesia, radiology, dentistry, pharmacology, laboratory procedures, and diseases. The students will also gain clinical experience in local veterinary hospitals. The graduate will have received the knowledge and skills necessary to be qualified for employment in such areas as clinical medicine, laboratory animal medicine, emergency medicine, biological research, food inspection, zoological medicine, academic instruction, pharmaceutical sales, and government regulatory agencies.
