Community college was not part of the original plan for Veronica Bumpus. She had initially attended a four-year university but had to leave for personal reasons. When she was ready to return to college, they required her to complete a semester at BridgeValley Community and Technical College (BVCTC). Her unplanned detour proved to have a silver lining, one that eventually led her to Washington, D.C., to advocate for all of the nation’s community college students.

(South Charleston, WV) Under the federal CARES Act, BridgeValley Community and Technical College (BVCTC) beginning in early 2020 received three rounds of Emergency Financial Aid grants totaling more than $3.4 million to support their students through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The college used no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004 (a) (1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid grants to its students. As of December 2021, $3,433,401 had been distributed.
(South Charleston, WV) Governor Jim Justice announced Wednesday that GreenPower Motor Company will be opening a 9.5-acre manufacturing facility in South Charleston, bringing hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars in economic impact to West Virginia.
Zero-emission, all-electric school busses will be produced in the 80,000 square-foot building. According to Governor Justice, the facility will bring up to 200 jobs to the state when manufacturing begins later this year with the potential to create as many as 900 jobs once the facility reaches full power.
