Aspiring Nurse Jen Henry Thrives at BridgeValley CTC: A Place of Support and Growth

In the pursuit of higher education, finding an institution that not only imparts knowledge but also fosters a sense of belonging and support can be transformative. Jen Henry, a dedicated second-semester nursing student at BridgeValley Community and Technical College (BVCTC), is a shining example of the remarkable impact that a nurturing academic environment can have on personal and academic growth.

Jen's decision to choose BridgeValley CTC for her education was fueled by the institution's accessibility and unwavering commitment to student success. "BVCTC immediately appealed to me because of how accessible it felt," Jen remarks. "Not only was it close to home, but there were also so many options for support, and it truly felt like everyone here wanted me to succeed. Right away, I was informed of opportunities to make college more affordable and attainable. I was welcomed into the community here, and I felt at home from day one."

Reflecting on her memorable experiences, Jen recalls the vibrant atmosphere of involvement at BVCTC. "One of the things that has really stuck out to me is the amount of involvement students get to have," she shares. "Not only are there constantly things going on here on campus for the students, but there have been multiple opportunities for me to involve my children at Family Events, as well."

BridgeValley CTC's impact on Jen's personal and academic growth is profound. As a mother of three young children, Jen had concerns about balancing her academic pursuits with her family responsibilities. However, the college's dedicated staff went above and beyond to provide her with the tools and support she needed to succeed. "BridgeValley has given me the opportunity to realize my potential," Jen explains. "From having sessions in mindfulness, to successful note-taking, to time management, it has made the process so much easier."

Central to Jen's success has been the wealth of resources and support services offered by BVCTC. She acknowledges the pivotal role played by Student Services, where she found assistance through counseling sessions, accommodations, and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. Additionally, Jen has engaged with the Tutoring Department, both as a recipient and contributor, highlighting the collaborative and enriching environment that BridgeValley fosters.

Jen's journey at BridgeValley CTC has not only equipped her with the skills and knowledge needed for her future career as a nurse but has also broadened her horizons. "The support and caring environment here have allowed me to not only feel like I am flourishing here, and that I have the capabilities to become a nurse, but also to set goals for my future and my continued education," Jen affirms. Her experience at BVCTC has inspired her to aim higher, as she now contemplates advanced degrees and further studies in pursuit of her passion.

Jen Henry's story exemplifies the transformative power of a student-centered education that BridgeValley Community and Technical College provides. As a nurturing and empowering institution, BVCTC continues to shape the lives of students like Jen, helping them realize their potential and prepare for successful futures.
