Middle School Opportunities

BridgeValley is bringing Nursing, Cyber Security, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology activities to middle school classrooms in Kanawha County and would love to visit your school!

These hands-on activities will allow students to explore different STEM career paths and learn what BridgeValley has to offer. Schools can choose from one, two, or all three activities, and we will work with your administration to customize the activities to meet the needs of your students and instructors.

Advanced Manufacturing Technology

About the Program

Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) provides a highly interactive, hands-on course of study to prepare for careers in the modern manufacturing environment. Graduates repair, troubleshoot, and install automated and process control systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, robots, and other electromechanical systems.

About the Project

Students will explore energy from different sources such as wind, chemical, and even vegetable energy by building a vehicle with various power sources. They will then compete to learn which type of energy was the most efficient.

Time Required: 30-45 minutes

Nursing

About the Program

The Nursing Department upholds the highest standards in education and technology to provide students with classroom, laboratory, clinical, and hands-on experience. Our partnerships with local hospitals and healthcare providers mean that students will have opportunities that can assist them with job placement.

About the Project

Students will explore the connections between the respiratory and circulatory systems as they build beating heart and inflating lung models. They will then compete to learn about the nurses who treat diseases affecting these vital organs.

Time Required: 45 minutes to 1 hour

Cyber Security

About the Program

The Cyber Security program turns students into information technology “jacks of all trades” with skills in computer repair, networking, and security maintenance with career flexibility in large businesses and the ability to independently handle the information technology needs of small and medium sized businesses.

About the Project

Students will role play as a cyber security expert while they work in small teams to break a “code” before the time runs out. They will then compete to learn more about the importance of information and technology security

Time Required: 30 – 45 minutes
