BridgeValley Community and Technical College (BVCTC) is pleased to announce the receipt of a significant $2.226 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor Strengthening Institutions Program. This grant will fund the COMPASS (Creating Opportunities, Maximizing Performance, Assistance, & Student Success) Project, a comprehensive initiative designed to bolster student retention and completion college wide.

The COMPASS Project is a five-year endeavor aimed at enhancing the overall student experience at BVCTC. The project will focus on the following key areas:

  1. Expansion of Academic Advising to a Holistic Success Coaching Model: Academic advising will be transformed into a holistic success coaching model, providing personalized support to students across the entire college. This approach ensures that students receive tailored guidance, enhancing their academic journey and overall college experience.
  2. Wraparound Supports and Participation Incentives: At-risk students enrolled in traditionally high DFW (D, F, Withdraw) classes will receive wraparound supports and participation incentives. These resources are designed to address specific challenges faced by students in these classes, promoting engagement and success.
  3. Emergency Funds: COMPASS will provide emergency funds to at-risk students enrolled in traditionally high DFW classes. These funds offer vital financial assistance to students facing unforeseen challenges, allowing them to continue their education without disruption.
  4. Microbiology Lab Upgrades: Investment in state-of-the-art microbiology lab upgrades will enhance the learning environment for students pursuing studies in this critical field. Upgraded facilities ensure students have access to modern equipment and resources, fostering a dynamic and hands-on learning experience.
  5. Development of Science Bootcamps: Science bootcamps will be developed to provide intensive, focused learning opportunities for students. These bootcamps aim to strengthen students' foundational knowledge and skills in science-related disciplines, boosting their confidence and preparedness for coursework.
  6. Establishment of an Endowed Student Opportunity Fund: The creation of an endowed student opportunity fund will provide a sustainable source of support for BVCTC students in perpetuity. This fund will offer scholarships, research opportunities, and other valuable experiences, empowering students to achieve their full potential.
