Who is an International Student?

An international student is someone who is not a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States of America.

Admissions Requirements

To be guaranteed review, international applicants must have their completed application on file at least four (4) months prior to their intended date of enrollment. International students must complete the admissions criteria listed below, while also following the criteria for their specific admit type (ie. First-Time Freshman, Readmit, Transfer, etc.):

  1. To be guaranteed review, an international student application at least four (4) months prior to their intended date of enrollment.
  2. Official records of a secondary education with higher-than-average grades. Official transcripts, from all institutions, of previous college work completed. All documents must be translated to the English language. For consideration, international college transcripts must be evaluated on a course-by-course basis by an approved third-party. BridgeValley accepts all evaluations from members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
  3. Proof of English Proficiency is required for applicants with a native language other than English.  According to BridgeValley, English Proficiency is determined based on the following criteria:
    1. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 500 on the paper-based test, or 173 on the computer-based version, or 61 or above on the internet-based version.
    2. International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) score of 6.5 or above.
    3. Duolingo score of 90 or above.
    4. Cambridge English score of B2 or above.
    5. ACT English/Reading score of 18 or above.
    6. SAT ERW (2016 or later) score of 480 or above.
    7. Official proof of current enrollment or successful completion/graduation from English as a Second Language (ESL) course (proof must be sent directly by agency or instructor of course to be reviewed).
    8. Successful completion of the BridgeValley Community & Technical College equivalent of ENGL 101.
    9. ACCUPLACER Reading score of 252 or above and a Writing score of 250 or above.
  4. Additional standardized test (ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER) for placement and counseling purposes, must be taken prior to registration.
  5. Additional criteria and documentation are required for applicants seeking issuance of a Visa.  BridgeValley Community & Technical College holds the authorization to issue F1 and M1 visas to applicants meeting the criteria.
