SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. - BridgeValley Community and Technical College extends its heartfelt appreciation to Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito for their instrumental role in securing funding to expand BridgeValley’s School of Nursing Program through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award. The $1,580,000 allocation, included in the FY24 Appropriation Bill, marks a significant milestone in addressing critical healthcare needs in West Virginia.
BridgeValley's School of Nursing will increase its seat capacity to recruit, admit, and graduate more students from rural, underserved communities. This expansion aims to fill essential Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) vacancies while alleviating bed closures in area acute-care facilities, particularly in the Charleston metropolitan and surrounding areas.
Upon graduation, students from BridgeValley's Nursing Program will be equipped to tackle the pressing healthcare challenges facing West Virginia communities. By preparing graduates for licensure examinations (NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN), BridgeValley is ensuring a pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals ready to serve and support the well-being of individuals across the state.
"We are immensely grateful to Senators Manchin and Capito for their unwavering support of BridgeValley's mission to provide quality education and address critical workforce needs," said Casey Sacks, President of BridgeValley Community and Technical College. "Their advocacy and dedication to the betterment of West Virginia have made this expansion possible, and we look forward to the positive impact it will have on healthcare delivery in our communities."
BridgeValley Community and Technical College remains committed to fostering educational opportunities that empower students and strengthen communities. The funding secured through the efforts of Senators Manchin and Capito represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare in West Virginia, and BridgeValley is proud to be at the forefront of this transformative initiative.
