Diesel Technology Students

 

The Diesel Technology program teaches students the basics on how to inspect, repair, and maintain any type of diesel engine. Our hands-on program will show students how to diagnose and fix engines, brake systems, drive trains, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. Students have access to real diesel equipment, industry standard tools and diagnostic software, and a 10,000 square foot diesel shop.

More About the Program


This program offers individuals the opportunity to complete the full outline of courses listed below
on site at BridgeValley Community and Technical College or transfer diesel technology credit from
various Career Technical Centers which offer similar programs.
 

Students get certified in OSHA10 and FIrst Aid/CPR/AED.  Our program trains students in-vehicle electronic systems, preventive maintenance, steering and suspension, brake systems and chassis.  Students learn to operate and repair diesel engines, fuel injection systems, onboard computers and transmission.  Additional diesel certifications include ASC Certifications in Diesel, Brakes, Drive Train and PReventive Maintenance and Electrical.  The Diesel Technology program provides students with a solid foundation that will enable them to enter  today's workforce.  Eligible students can attend this program for FREE with WV Invests. 

 

The Diesel Technology Program is now a member of the Association of Diesel Specialists.

Diesel Technology Program Required Tool Set


Credit may also be transferred from individuals completing industry training from Caterpillar, Komatsu, Cummins or Detroit. Individuals completing industry based training must confer with the program advisor for credit equivalency.

Boyd CAT BVCTC Scholarship

The Boyd CAT BVCTC Scholarship supports students enrolled in the Diesel Technology program at BridgeValley Community and Technical College. This scholarship provides recipients with up to $1,500 per year ($750 per Fall and Spring semester) to cover program tuition and books.

To be eligible, applicants must complete the Boyd CAT - BVCTC Scholarship application and meet the following criteria:

  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Make satisfactory progress in coursework and work activities
  • Remain in good standing without any disciplinary actions

This scholarship is awarded for up to two years, helping students gain the education and hands-on experience needed for success in the field.
