Institutional Aid

Institutional aid consists of scholarships mainly based on academic performance.  These include freshman scholarships, returning student scholarships, and college foundation scholarships.

First-Time Freshman Academic Scholarships Which Do Not Require An Application

First-time freshman students' admissions application, high school transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and FAFSA information will be used to award these scholarships.

President's Level Scholarship
Requirements: Applicants must be a first time freshman with a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 and a minimum ACT of 24 or SAT of 1110. The scholarship requires WV residency and recipients will receive $2,000 per year with a two year limit of eligibility.  To meet eligibility for second year of award, student must earn 24 credit hours and have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the end of the first year.

BOG Level Scholarship
Requirements: Applicants must be a first time freshman with a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 and a minimum ACT of 22 or SAT of 1030. The scholarship requires WV residency and recipients will receive $1,200 per year with a two year limit of eligibility.  To meet eligibility for second year of award, student must earn 24 credit hours and have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the end of the first year.

West Virginia Resident First Generation Freshman Scholarship
West Virginia residents will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship for their freshman year at BridgeValley Community and Technical College. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.75 and minimum ACT score of 18 (or SAT equivalent of 870), do not qualify for the President’s or BOG Scholarships and they have parents who have not graduated from a college or university.

High School/Career & Technical Center Scholarship
A high school senior from each public high school and a student from each career & technical center in Clay, Fayette, Kanawha, Nicholas, Putnam and Raleigh counties will be selected to receive a one-time $800 scholarship for their freshman year at BridgeValley. Applicants must be a WV resident, have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.50 and do not qualify for the President's, BOG, First Generation, or College Transition Scholarships.

College Transition Scholarship

Three students currently enrolled in BridgeValley’s college transition class will be selected to receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship for their freshman year at BridgeValley. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.25 and do not qualify for the President’s, BOG, or First Generation Scholarships.

Returning Student Scholarships Which Require An Application - Apply online using AwardSpring

Academic Division Scholarship
One student in each academic division will be selected by the division to receive this scholarship. Students must have a minimum of a 3.5 institutional GPA.

Academic Excellence Scholarship
One student who has demonstrated engagement in campus activities and community service will be selected to receive this scholarship. Applicants must have completed one academic year at our institution and have a minimum of a 3.5 institutional GPA. Submitted service hours will be verified prior to awarding.

Please Note: If the recipient enrolls less-than-full-time status the institutional scholarship will be pro-rated based on actual enrollment status.

Other Institutional Scholarships

Encova (formerly BrickStreet) Scholarship: Apply online using AwardSpring

Students who plan to be full-time next school year, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and in good academic standing may apply for the Encova scholarship.

Poffenbarger Allied Health Scholarship:  Apply online using AwardSpring

The Poffenbarger Scholarship is awarded each semester to 6 nursing/allied health students who have completed at least 15 credit hours at BridgeValley. The successful candidates must demonstrate institutional and/or community service activities and have at least a 3.25 institutional GPA. The award is to be used for tuition and fees, textbooks, and/or other required materials for the chosen program of study within the Health Division. 

The amount awarded to each of the 6 students is $1500.
