Real Estate Pre-Licensure for Brokers Training Program
To be a real estate broker or associate broker in West Virginia, the West Virginia Real Estate Commission (WVREC) requires applicants to complete 180 clock hours, equivalent to 12 college credit hours, in courses approved by the Commission and offered by a Commission-approved Provider. BridgeValley is an approved provider.
Course Details
Cohorts begin twice a year, usually in mid-January and mid-August. The courses are 100% online and last 15 weeks. You must score 70% or higher to receive a certificate of completion at the end of each course. These certificates must be provided to the WVREC to take the licensure exams. Pre-licensure courses are valid for 5 years upon the date of completion.
Three courses are offered and contain the following topics. You may take one course at a time or in any combination or order. *The instructors do not recommend taking all three courses at one time unless you have the time needed to devote to it.
West Virginia Specific Real Estate for Brokers
- 35 clock hours - $400 + textbooks/materials
- Covers WV laws, trust fund management, property management, and
Brokerage Operations Management
- 30 clock hours - $400 + textbooks/materials
- Focuses on market research, business planning, and establishment of brokerage firms.
Human Resource Management & Interpersonal Skills for Real Estate Brokers
- 25 clock hours - $400 + textbooks/materials
- Enhances staffing, coaching, payroll management, and interpersonal skills.
Independent Certification
BridgeValley Community and Technical College is the State's only online provider of WVREC-approved real estate courses. Additionally, courses are certified by ARELLO (the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials) which provides an independent review and evaluation of the licensing examinations and the program methodology used in developing and maintaining the examinations. Our instructors have over 70 years of experience, collectively; and the first-time passage rate of the state and national salesperson licensure is 88%.
Cost: The cost for each course is $400 + textbook/materials. One textbook is used for all three courses.

Note: Class enrollment is on a First Come-First Serve basis. Due to the increased number of students applying for this, you must apply for admission as quickly as possible. Once the maximum number of 20 students in each cohort is met, the class is closed.
